Why does this website still seem so dead?

So I"m just curious, why do the forums seem to be so dead? I know things always die down after the 4th but does not everyone know about this new website yet? Or have most everyone given up and gone to the facebook pyro U page (Which is not that great in my opinion) or to the no talk website?
It just seems like this new website is not taking off like I thought it would. Pyrofan seem to explode when the old Pyro U website went down years ago. This one, not so much. :(

Partly it's burnout - when Pyro U folded, many of us immediately rebuilt content on Pyrofan so it started showing up in Google results for a lot of different searches.

Partly it's that Pyrofan still shows up in Google search results - Google apparently doesn't recognize that it's dead. So traffic is not being driven here.

I think many are tired of re-building at this point. We are affiliated with the PyroU facebook page and try to direct people here as forums are much better structured. There are going to be a lot of changes to FB groups coming soon that may help drive people back to forums.

Interesting enough, we do get a lot of hits from google for people searching "pyrofan" so our rankings will increase when google removes them.

Perhaps there are many old forum members that still do not know about us. I'm hoping that word will spread at PGI.

I appreciate everyone who signed up and is helping to grow the community.

So I'm curious. What changes are coming to Facebook groups? I tried to follow it for a while but apparently that format is just not for me. Perpetual chaos with no organization of information and ideas.

I wasn't talking about the pyro u facebook group in particular... or even groups on facebook… but facebook in general seems to be headed under a very power microscope...

in fact multiple ones...

Too many comments, photos, videos, etc. are being deleted by Facebook because it doesn't meet their community standards?!?!

unfortunately its not only that...

there are all sorts of investigations starting to surface into all sorts of doozy's... everything from mishandling/selling people's private information, to big tech censorship, to even election interference/meddling.

they are about to face all sorts of investigations and lawsuits and regulation and in the process of all that... people are finally going to be faced with what these companies have been doing all these years with everyone's data...

...just the creepy crap google/youtube/alphabet have been up to over in china with dragonfly and social scoring systems should make everyone's skin crawl

all of them are being put on trial in various forms for the entire world to see and it's going to get real ugly.

publisher or platform... pick one

I think a lot of people just want to keep using Facebook. Personally I think it's a cesspool of misinformation and everyone is an "expert". It's great to share something real quick but for anyone who really wants to learn or get information they should be on a forum.

I agree brother. I watch cspan, Briebart news, Fox, MSN and other news and watch how the mighty Zuckerberg is starting to have to answer to all the security and privacy rights.
Big Tech companies seem to have more pull today than does Big Pharma!

This has been going on for many years already.
Look at car repair scams, new vehicle trade-ins with dealers I’ve never heard of, insurance, real estate. Companies have been selling your info on the web long before Google, Youtube, Amazon etc.
it’s just now getting noticed.
I have a buddy who lives off the grid. No computer, no cell phone and he loves it that way.

While I pretty much think Facebook is the enemy, the data brokers and credit agencies are actually much more of a problem. Facebook just tracks everything you do, they don't accumulate your legal and financial records and then offer them for sale to anyone with ten bucks.

I wish you were right, but it's becoming clear that these companies are all in cahoots with one another and pushing us twords some nightmarish combination of 1984, fahrenheit 451, and brave new world

just do some digging into the dragonfly program over in china... if you aren't hip to that... that's their social scoring system where if you've had too much to think you can't take public transportation or shop in certain stores, or fly in a plane, etc… etc...

google made that

they would love to do the same thing here and there are plenty of people who support it.

the bias that big tech is pushing on the citizens of this country isn't going to last much longer, they are going to be forced to declare themselves either a publisher or or private company...

no more "it's the algorithm" excuses, no more best of both world protections, no more election tampering...

the storm is coming for all of them, they've been begging for it

I've been stocking up on popcorn cause this is going to be the best season of house of cards ever

I couldn't agree with you more about the FB page. Yeah, its ok for posting something quick like a video or pic but any type of useful information, it just sucks donkey nuts.
And unless there is some type of search feature i am completely unaware of (other then the tag categories), good luck finding anything after its been posted longer than 60 minutes. Scrolling through hours and hours of posts looking and trying to find something worth reading or watching gets tiresome real quick.
And your right, everyone is an expert there and just like FB in general, if someone doesn't like what you have to say, they rip you to shreds because there are just a lot of d@cks there.

I also think group buys and such should not be posted on FB but that's something I'm not getting into here. lol
But i'm sure those of you that have been around on the forums for a while (and on FB) can guess why. 💩💩 lol

Facebook is so annoying, but unfortunately a lot of good info is getting posted there (buried deeply with other junk). I try to keep up with the PyroU and Cobra facebook pages by going directly to them. It's still annoying to see a post has new messages, but having to hunt to find out which reply it's buried in. So many times the same information is answered/said over and over again because people don't (or can't find) that the info is already there.

Tired of spending time and money to build a site that disappears.

Personally I'm doing more and more indoor close prox gigs and outside of Joe Ratman we never had many close prox pyros active on the forums.

I'm hoping this site gains momentum. Gotta remember it has only been here a few months. Gotta work through the seasonal cycles. Maybe some old timers are tired of losing sites and are giving up. But if enough of us hang on, we will soon be the old timers!

Forums are definitely better for cohesive discussions, group buys, and keeping out the riff raff.
