Every year I try to do something new on our annual 4th of July show. This year I picked up a bunch of 6meter 1/2 sec jet fountains. There was this "rapid fire" segment in a song that I heard that I thought would be great for some quick chases. Since I don't have a shoot site for flinging single comets, meteors, or even mines in all directions, I went with fountains.

I'll post the whole video soon, but I thought I'd provide some details here - I posted something on Pyro U, but things tend to get lost there.

The construction is fairly larger for the 20mm fountains, but each of the 12 platforms were sized to hold a rail and larger fountains (I had room and cues to add some larger 4 second fountains, too) Each firing platform is easily removed from the two end plates with a few screws to be used for other projects - "poor man's pyrolamas." I don't know that I would use them for any larger comets or meteors (what do you think?), but I already have more fountain plans for them next year.

I fiddled with how to script the fountains to chase around the 12 positions. At first I was going to have one rail for each chase which would require wiring each rail to all positions. I finally settled on one rail for each position and the chases run through each rail. The benefits pointed out with this approach is that if you loose a rail, you only loose one position rather than a whole chase. Also it makes the wiring much easier!!!! For those that have done similar setups, what would have been your recommendation?

Here is a picture of my teenage son who helped build it.

I was super pleased with it and I think it was more impressive in the show than the video of the show. In the video you loose sense or the 36ft diameter fountain spray with other effects going up in the sky - it looks small.

Here is a cheesy quick video I did while waiting for the show to be processed.
