Racks I am building

The prototype for my racks is finished. They will now go into full production mode, a friend of mine is building these and I would like to know what everyone thinks.

Very smart going with 12 shot rails... makes dropping shells way easier when %99 of shell kits come in some multiple of 6

After this year I plan on drilling 2 more holes in each sideboard to accomodate setting the rack at an angle. Just not enough time to add that feature at this time. I had it built for easy setup and tear down with the 2 carriage bolts and wing nuts. Rather than repeatedly screwing or nailing on the sideboards.

With that size of end board you could make 3 rack pods with 4 more carriage bolts per side. Transport them disassembled and they would go together quick with your bolt and nut system! No need to schlep huge 36 shot racks. And you could make a super W shot rack that way by angling the outboard racks. Good man.
 
Yes, The people who designed and made them for me locally here in the OKC area are discussing making them and selling them to who ever might be interested in purchasing them. So if anyone is interested please post your comments here and I will pass them on to them.
 
It looks pretty solid....but heavy if you add more racks. I built like that in my younger days. Now I might be considering wheels (or rope handles at the least). :unsure:

Or less shells. Cakes are pretty light. :)
 
Looks very very tough....i built all my own also.I have no money in lumber for I used all hardwood skids from work (the good ones of course)and only have money in mortars.good job🖒
 
How are the carriage bolts affixed so that they don't spin? Square shanks pounded in to a slightly undersized hole?
 
Nice looking rack. We did ours similar to that. Hole saw so much easier than adding spacers between mortars.
Heavy as hell but ours lasted for years. I am curious though is how would making spacers that way hold up to inspection on site? For that reason (and the weight) I have never brought mine to a club shoot. In the north east in particular CT they can be a little nuts.
 
I am assuming you are using 1.75" mortars. If using higher sized shells, I would suggest OSB for the bottom rails for safety.
