This is my first time heading out to Western Winter Blast. I'm flying into Vegas and driving down. Any suggestions on places to check out? What is the "not to miss" part of WWB? I didn't get a room at the host hotel, they were sold out. I hear that the after glows are at the hotel and fun to attend. I'm going to be spending my days in the trade show, so stop by and say Hello!

I had a great time! It was like a smaller scale PGI. Their builders classes filled up really quick. They did a great job with the organization. The shows were pretty cool to watch also. Everyone was friendly and it was beautiful area. If you take the family, there is all kinds of things for them to do while there too. They had a huge Rockabilly concert at the same time. I would definitely go again.

Glad to hear you had a blast! Even with me being somewhat on the inside, I have always been impressed with how well organized everything is. It is a great reflection of the quality of the whole organization. The shows are second to none. The display companies that are hired know how knowlegeable the crowd is so they have to be on their toes and go the extra mile to impress their audience. I have never seen a bad show there. My favorite displays are shot by AM Pyro, out of Missouri.

The city has always welcomed the WPA with open arms. The hotels especially. They jack their rates up just for us. The Rockabilly folks decided that the weekend of fireworks would be a great weekend to hold one of them Rockabilly deals with car shows, pin up girl contests, and concerts in the same town, putting more upward pressure on the hotel rates. But, hey, we're all in town to have fun so what the heck.

Like I said, I'm glad you had a great time, looking forward to seeing you there

FWIW, as I was checking out of the host hotel they asked me if I wanted to reserve for next year - this is the first time I've been asked that; I usually wait until a month or two after WWB and book a room, then closer to the event I call the hotel and get them to update my reservation to the convention rate (they ask for my membership number and that's it).

That's cool. I guess that is an easy one for the hotel. It's been the host for it seems like forever and the event is always on the same weekend in February (Presidents Day weekend ). I would take advantage of the early reservation. Like you said, you could update the reservation when the time is at hand, or you could give the reservation to someone else in the club, or you could just cancel it, without charge.

I know it is really convenient to be at the host hotel, what with the afterglow being there also and all the free beer.
:)
